Marquette General Level II Trauma Center
Marquette General receives trauma patients from throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. When trauma patients arrive, a team of physicians, nurses, and appropriate support staff are already assembled and prepared for rapid assessment and treatment.
Marquette General Hospital has been verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes the hospital's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. The verification must be renewed every three years.
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.
Our vision includes the development of a U.P. wide trauma network in collaboration with hospitals and emergency services agencies throughout the region.
What is a Trauma Center?
A trauma center is a hospital distinguished by its organized systematic approach of caring for the injured patient. A hospital must demonstrate adequate facilities, specialized personnel, ongoing training for personnel, continuous self-monitoring and a desire to prevent trauma in order to become a trauma center. The American College of Surgeons outlines the essential components of a trauma center and is the verifying body for these hospitals.

Trauma Department Staff:
Marquette General's entire staff of physicians and health care professionals are involved in the direct care of trauma patients.
The Trauma Department, whose staff is listed here, has the responsibility for assuring compliance with the American College of Surgeons criteria as the criteria continue to change. In addition the Trauma Department is involved in daily clinical rounds; interdepartmental coordination of the care of trauma patients from the ambulance to discharge from the hospital and compiling and reporting statistics on the frequency and types's of trauma injuries.
